Citizens Bank Foundation contributes $40,000 to Fairmount Park Conservancy for Hunting Park revitalization project in Philadelphia

Bank volunteers spend Saturday beautifying Hunting Park

PHILADELPHIA   (October 20, 2009) – The Citizens Bank Foundation today announced that it is donating $40,000 to the Fairmount Park Conservancy as part of the plan to revitalize Hunting Park, specifically the park’s baseball field. The grant will help pay for a new backstop and dugout at the baseball field primarily used by Hunting Park youth.

In addition to announcing the grant, Citizens Bank volunteers spent the day cleaning up the park and recreation center in conjunction with Greater Philadelphia Cares Day of Service. Armed with gloves, trash bags and recycling containers, about 30 bank volunteers gathered to mulch trees, trim branches, paint park gates and do general cleanup.

“This project is extremely exciting for all of us at Citizens Bank,” said Daniel K. Fitzpatrick, Citizens Bank President and CEO for Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. “Our core mission is to help revitalize neighborhoods and this project is clearly a home run. We are proud to join the Fairmount Park Conservancy and the Ryan Howard Foundation in providing the opportunities to play first-class baseball on this field.”

In addition to announcing the grant, the Fairmount Park Conservancy unveiled the Hunting Park Master Plan, the first comprehensive revitalization initiative in the North Philadelphia Park’s 200-year history. City officials, business leaders and community members identified capital improvements, new amenities, enhanced programming and safety recommendations that will transform Hunting Park into a significant resource for the health and welfare of the neighborhood.

The Fairmount Park Conservancy and Hunting Park community are thrilled to have the Citizens Bank Foundation’s generous support of this important initiative,” said Katrina L. Wilhelm, Executive Director of the Fairmount Park Conservancy. “Citizens Bank joins a dedicated group of partners and donors that have been working diligently to revitalize Hunting Park for the betterment of the surrounding neighborhood.”
