Citizens Bank (Delaware) announces winners of Short Story Contest

Kids used their imaginations to write stories about cool cars gracing the streets of Wilmington for Citizens Bank Cool City Cars Short Story Contest

Wilmington, DE (September 16, 2004) - Citizens Bank today announced the winners of the Citizens Bank Short Story Contest, which the bank sponsored in an effort to get kids' creative juices flowing this summer by writing about the Wilmington's Cool City Cars 2004. Prizes were presented to the winners at an awards ceremony on Thursday, August 26, 2004.

The Citizens Bank Short Story Contest ran from May 26 to July 23 and was designed to encourage youth ages 8 to 12 to use their imaginations and write a short story about their favorite Cool City Car to win prizes. Entries were separated into two age categories: 8 to 9 years old and 10 to 12 years old. A first, second, and third prize was awarded in each age group. Richelle Vible, President and CEO of Citizens Bank in Delaware, presented the awards with the help of the other judges.

Wilmington's Cool City Cars public art project exhibit features 42 fiberglass creations placed on sidewalks throughout the downtown area. Young people who entered the contest had to write a short story about his or her favorite Cool City Car in 500 words or less. Stories had to be written without the help of an adult.

"Citizens Bank was proud to hold this contest because we think it is important to keep children intellectually stimulated, especially during the summer months when they are not in school. The Citizens Bank Short Story Contest gave them an incentive to exercise their creativity through writing," said Vible. "We would like to congratulate the winners and all of the kids who entered on their terrific work."

The winners and titles of their stories were:

In the 8 to 9 year age group, Jacqueline Chen took first place for "Bikini Bottom's Heroes," Scotty Holahan won second prize with "My Dream Car" and Beth Janes came in third with her story entitled "City Cool Cars."
