RBS/Citizens Bank helping Pittsburgh golf fans celebrate the U.S. Open Championship by replicating Jack Nicklaus’ most famous shot
Contestants have a chance to win a round of golf at Bear’s ClubPITTSBURGH (June 13, 2007) - RBS and Citizens Bank of Pennsylvania will be helping golf fans celebrate this year’s U.S. Open Championship by offering the chance to replicate Jack Nicklaus’ 17th hole in the final round at the 1972 US Open at Pebble Beach. As part of the Three Rivers Arts Festival, Jack’s Majors Challenge will take place June 11 to 15 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Four Gateway Plaza.
In 1972, Jack struck a one iron on the par-three 17th hole through a stiff, gusty wind, the ball hit the flagstick and came to a stop inches from the hole. The Jack Nicklaus’ Majors Challenge golf simulator will recreate that shot, and allow local golfers three attempts to try and replicate the shot by first viewing the legendary stroke and then striking a real golf ball down a virtual 17th hole. The contestant who best replicates it will win a round of golf at Bear’s Club and a set of custom-fitted Nicklaus clubs.
“We are excited to be able to offer this opportunity to local golfers in the Pittsburgh area,” said Ralph Papa, president of Citizens Bank of Pennsylvania. “This brings a little bit of the excitement surrounding the U.S. Open right into the heart of downtown Pittsburgh and allows everyone an opportunity to catch some of the US Open fever.”
This special attraction is free and open to the public. For more information please contact Angie Wagner at 412-867-2726.
