Citizens Bank of Rhode Island hosts kids golf tournament to benefit Button Hole

Providence, R.I.        (August 3, 2007) - Citizens Bank will host the sixth annual “The Citizens Bank Kids Classic for Button Hole” Tuesday, August 7, 2007 (rain date is Thursday, August 8, 2007) at Button Hole Golf Course in Providence. Graduates of the Button Hole program will play in the tournament, with more than 100 children participating.

More than $40,000 is expected to be raised at the tournament with proceeds supporting youth programs at Button Hole Golf Course, a nine-hole instructional course that provides the area’s 25,000 urban youth with a place to learn basic skills and gain an understanding of the game of golf.

“Through ‘The Citizens Bank Kids Classic for Button Hole,’ Citizens hopes to empower young people to realize their highest potential,” said Joseph J. MarcAurele, Chairman, President, and CEO of Citizens Bank of Rhode Island. “We have learned from this tournament that kids learn valuable life lessons about success and failure, fair play, honesty, integrity and discipline by learning to play golf. Citizens is proud to help empower young people to reach their full potential through this tournament.”

The all-day tournament will be a scramble format with four boys and girls divisions:
6 to 9 years; 10 to 14 years; and 15 to 17 years. Graduates of the Button Hole Junior Clinic are eligible to play. Each foursome will be accompanied by an adult “mentor” who will play with and provide useful golf and tournament tips to the players.

Chipping, putting, and closest-to-the-pin contests will be held throughout the day as well. Prizes will be awarded to all tournament participants at a 5:30 p.m. awards ceremony.

“The previous five Citizens Bank Kids Classic for Button Hole exceeded our expectations and Button Hole is honored to have Citizens Bank host this very successful event once again,” said David Hanna, Executive Director of Button Hole. “The Citizens Bank Kids Classic for Button Hole helps fulfill our mission to give kids the opportunity to become “Button Hole Kids,” graduates of A Lesson In Golf…A Lesson in Life, and members of their own golf club. They are even able to play golf for one dollar.  For many, this opportunity is only possible through the commitment of everyone at Citizens Bank.”

In addition to Citizens Bank, this year’s lead sponsors include ATM Corporation of America, Barsh & Cohen, Coast to Coast Promotional Products, First American Flood Data Services, First American Lenders Advantage, Fisery Lending Solutions, Hansen Quality, LSI, Ohio Indemnity Company, MOMC, Recovery Solutions and Lehman Brothers, Inc.
