Good Beginnings of Sullivan County named New Hampshire’s 2007 Champion in Action in area of violence prevention
Citizens Bank and WMUR-TV to provide $25,000 grant, PR and volunteer supportManchester, N.H. (October 3, 2007) - Citizens Bank New Hampshire and WMUR-TV have named Good Beginnings of Sullivan County as its 2007 fourth quarter Champion in Action® in the area of violence prevention. As part of the award, Good Beginnings of Sullivan County will receive a $25,000 grant, media coverage, and extensive promotional and volunteer support for its dedication to child abuse prevention services in Sullivan County.
“Citizens Bank is pleased to join WMUR-TV in naming Good Beginnings of Sullivan County as its newest Champion in Action,” said Cathleen A. Schmidt, President, Citizens Bank, New Hampshire. “By providing financial, marketing and volunteer support, we can assist this Champion in taking a big step forward in advancing its programs and services. Good Beginnings of Sullivan County helps hundreds of families each year by providing health education, parent education, assessment and support for parents and children to help form healthy family relationships. We are proud to recognize its efforts and help the agency grow.”
The Champions in Action® program is designed to recognize and support non-profit organizations for their contributions to New Hampshire communities. A new Champion in Action is selected each quarter among a range of social service areas.

Good Beginnings of Sullivan County is being recognized for:
• Evolving from a small volunteer program serving 15 families in 1992, into a comprehensive family support center serving more than 800 parents and 500 children.
• Promoting the optimal health and development of children who live in Claremont and Newport, and the surrounding communities of Sullivan County. Through a multi-disciplinary team approach of pediatricians, nurse case managers, and parent educators, Good Beginnings of Sullivan County helps parents develop healthy relationships to their children beginning in early pregnancy and continuing through the early years of a child’s life – in an effort to prevent the harmful effects of child abuse and neglect.
• Assisting hundreds of families in Sullivan County through a multi-disciplinary team approach. Good Beginnings provides a variety of free services including: assistance by home visitors; parent education; weekly teen parent support groups; supervised visitation for children and non-custodial parents ; and parent support groups for fathers, new mothers and young mothers. Good Beginnings of Sullivan County also supplies baby equipment and child development screening.
As a Champion in Action, Good Beginnings of Sullivan County will receive:
• A $25,000 contribution in unrestricted funds from the Citizens Bank Foundation.
• Media coverage from WMUR-TV, including public service announcements and television profiles.
• Volunteer support from Citizens and WMUR-TV employees.
• Extensive public relations support.
• Promotional support, highlighting the current “Champion in Action” in all Citizens Bank branches and on its ATMs.
• Exposure on both Citizens Bank and WMUR-TV Web sites.
“We are honored to be recognized by Citizens Bank and WMUR-TV as a Champion in Action,” said Ellie Tsetsi, Executive Director of Good Beginnings of Sullivan County. “With the support of WMUR and Citizens Bank, we will be able to inform and educate the community on all programs and services we offer for families. The resources provided by the Champions award will allow us to serve more families and continue assisting New Hampshire’s most vulnerable citizens.”
A non-profit organization supporting affordable housing will be named for the first quarter Champion in Action in January 2008.
