Citizens Bank Foundation partners with Salvation Army in New Hampshire to provide matching funds up to $100,000 at new green kettles

Concord, Laconia, Manchester, Nashua and Portsmouth locations will host special green kettles from November 23 to December 24

Manchester, N.H.          (November 9, 2007) - In response to the growing demand for emergency food, shelter and assistance with fuel expenses in communities throughout the state, the New Hampshire Salvation Army and Citizens Bank today announced a new partnership. The Citizens Bank Foundation will match donations up to $100,000 collected at 20 specially marked green kettles in New Hampshire as part of the Salvation Army’s 2007 Kettle Campaign, which was announced today at the organization’s annual Santa Fund luncheon.

“Every year, the red kettles are a reminder that there are many people in the community who need our support during the holiday season,” said Major Greg Hartshorn, Officer of the Manchester Salvation Army.  “Changing the colors of some of these kettles from red to green and having the Citizens Bank Foundation match donations collected at these new green kettles is an eye-catching way to let people know the need and demand for assistance is changing every day, and that there is a special opportunity this year to support more of our neighbors who are in need.”

The 20 new green kettles will be in locations in Concord, Laconia, Manchester, Nashua, and Portsmouth beginning November 23, 2007 and will be available for the duration of the campaign, which concludes on December 24, 2007. The Salvation Army’s remaining 48 red kettles are available for that same time period.

“Both the Salvation Army and Citizens Bank are committed to making a difference in the communities we serve,” said Cathy Schmidt, president and CEO of Citizens Bank, New Hampshire. “This year, the Salvation Army red and Citizens Bank green are coming together in a partnership to address the growing needs of the community. Citizens Bank is honored to take part in this holiday tradition that raises thousands of dollars to support the important programs and services provided by the Salvation Army, and we look forward to the generosity of our great state during this year’s Kettle Campaign.”

The Salvation Army’s Kettle Campaign has been the organization’s signature fundraising initiative for more than 100 years. Last year’s campaign raised $554,000 in these five communities and provided more than 13,600 food vouchers, nearly 22,000 articles of clothing and more than 38,300 new toys for disadvantaged individuals, families and children in New Hampshire. The Salvation Army expects the need for assistance to be even greater this holiday season. As a result, the organization hopes to raise even more from this year’s Kettle Campaign.

“With the support of the Citizens Bank Foundation, and the continued generosity of our friends and supporters across the state, we have every confidence we will meet our goal,” said Hartshorn.

About the Salvation Army

Helping people in time of need is the backbone of our work at The Salvation Army. But our life-giving mission goes far beyond basic assistance (i.e. food or clothing). Through our programs, we not only help individuals and families in the short-term, but also for the long-term. The Salvation Army strives to be timely and efficient as it examines and addresses needs within a community. We continue to seek ways to change people’s lives by elevating the human spirit through the gift of Christian love. We lift people up – get them on their feet – help them grow in all dimensions of life.
