Citizens Bank names Martin House as Champion In Action in Connecticut
New London, Conn. (January 16, 2008) - Citizens Bank, Connecticut has announced that Martin House, a supportive housing organization that provides services to individuals who have experienced mental illness, addiction and homelessness, has been name its Champion in Action® for the first quarter of 2008 in the area of affordable housing.
The award was announced by Rich Barry, president, Citizens Bank, Connecticut during an on-air segment during the noon newscast on WTNH earlier today. The award includes a $25,000 grant from the Citizens Bank Foundation.
“Martin House has provided affordable housing with support services to more than 750 men and women throughout eastern Connecticut for more than 25 years,” said Barry. “It is our hope that by honoring this organization as our Champion in Action, this important work will continue for as long as it is needed.”
Martin House is a supportive housing organization that provides services for 56 individuals at a time who have experienced mental illness, addiction and homelessness. In addition to private rooms, Martin House provides three nutritious meals a day and 24-hour staff support. Special services include crisis intervention, case management, advocacy, referral, on-site adult education, recreation, budgeting assistance, employability development and daily living skill development.
Champions in Action is a partnership between Citizens Bank and WTNH / MyTV 9 launched in 2002 to provide financial support and public awareness to the nonprofit organizations that work every day to champion change in our communities.
Each quarter, a nonprofit organization among a range of social service topics in Connecticut is recognized as a Champion in Action. Each champion in action receives the following support in addition to the $25,000 grant from the Citizens Bank Foundation:
• Media coverage from News Channel 8/MyTV9, including public service announcements;
• Volunteer support from both Citizens Bank and News Channel 8/MyTV9;
• Public relations support; and promotional support through visibility at Citizen Bank branches and citizensbank.com.
