Citizens Bank donates 200 winter coats to Children’s Village in Philadelphia

Program serving working families in Chinatown to distribute coats

PHILADELPHIA   (February 11, 2008) - Citizens Bank volunteers today donated 200 coats to Children’s Village, a childcare and aftercare program serving the working families of Chinatown. Citizens Bank volunteers distributed the warm, winter coats at the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church at 915 Vine St. in Philadelphia.

“We are pleased to be able to deliver these coats to children in need,” said Daniel K. Fitzpatrick, Citizens Bank President and CEO for Eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. “Everyone deserves protection from the elements, especially the young, and we’re grateful to do our part to help some children stay warm during the winter months.”

Citizens Bank worked in conjunction with Operation Warm to obtain the coats. Through a $3,000 sponsorship from Citizens Bank, Operation Warm was able to purchase two styles of coats for girls and two styles of coats for boys ages 4 and under. The coats are in assorted colors so that children can select their favorite.

“On behalf of the families who use our services, I want to thank Citizens Bank for these wonderful coats,” said Mary Graham, Executive Director of Children’s Village. “Although we’ve had a mild winter, today’s colder weather is a reminder of how timely this donation will be for many families.”

Children’s Village was selected to receive the coats as an extension of Citizens Bank’s Champions in Action® program with the Philadelphia Chinatown Development Corporation.

About Children’s Village

Founded in 1976, Children’s Village was one of the first Pennsylvania licensed child-care programs in Center City Philadelphia to respond to the needs of working parents. The private nonprofit organization’s mission is to provide high-quality early childhood education to young children and educational enrichment to school-age children in a safe, nurturing setting, while their parents work, while making high-quality child-care accessible to families at all economic levels. Children’s Village Child Care Center was recently granted reaccreditation by the National Association for the Education of Young Children, the national accreditation agency for early childhood programs, receiving 95 percent to 100 percent or better on program standards, making it one of the first times in Philadelphia that a child care center has attained such high levels of excellence.
