Goodwill Industries named Rhode Island Champion in Action in the workforce development category
Nonprofit agency receives unrestricted $25,000 grant, PR and volunteer supportProvidence, R.I. (April 10, 2008) - Citizens Bank, Rhode Island and NBC10 today named Goodwill Industries of Rhode Island in Providence as their 2008 second quarter Champion in Action® in the workforce development category. As part of the award, Goodwill will receive a $25,000 grant, media coverage and extensive promotional and volunteer support for its outstanding work.
Goodwill Industries of Rhode Island has a demonstrated history of understanding the challenges and employment barriers encountered by adults. Today, it is a comprehensive education and employment center committed to expanding opportunities for people with disabilities and other social barriers to employment. Goodwill’s vision is to provide quality jobs by placing clients in a meaningful work environment while enhancing their capacity for independent living and a better quality of life.

Champions in Action is a joint initiative of Citizens Bank and NBC10, launched five years ago, to recognize and support nonprofit organizations for their contributions to Rhode Island communities. A new Champion in Action is selected each quarter among a range of social service topics.

Goodwill Industries is being recognized for:
• Its innovative Assistive Technology program, deaf and hearing impaired services, ESL classes to adults and job coaching services.
• Providing more than 280 results-oriented internships and job placement opportunities annually.
• Its multi-customer model which is structured to fulfill the needs of the employer, the participant and the funding supporters.
• Providing Rhode Island employers with dependable workers who are able to meet the demands of the job.
As a Champion in Action, Goodwill will receive:
• A $25,000 contribution in unrestricted funds from Citizens Bank.
• Media coverage from NBC10, including public service announcements and television profiles.
• Volunteer support from Citizens and NBC10 employees.
• Extensive public relations support.
• Promotional support, highlighting the “Champion in Action” in all Citizens Bank branches and on its ATMs.
• Exposure on both Citizens Bank and NBC10 Web sites.
