American Le Mans Series Dominik Farnbacher competes against race fans off the track at Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix’s Charter One Chalets
Charter One Foundation donates $1,000 to Forgotten Harvest each time race fan beats proDETROIT (August 31, 2007) Charter One Bank will join the racing action at the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix by showcasing The Royal Bank of Scotland Group’s (“RBS”) F1 simulator during race days. The RBS F1 simulator is a replica of the AT&T WilliamsF1 Team Grand Prix car. Charter One’s corporate parent RBS is the exclusive banking partner to The WilliamsF1 Team.
The RBS F1 simulator is an interactive display that will allow guests in the Charter One Fountain Side Suites and Chalets near Scott Fountain to take the Charter One Challenge and test their driving skills against American Le Mans Series Dominik Farnbacher of Tafel Racing.
In addition to bragging rights, each time an RBS F1 challenger posts a faster time than Farnbacher, a $1,000 donation will be made from the Charter One Foundation to Forgotten Harvest, metropolitan Detroit’s only food rescue. Forgotten Harvest will be on Belle Isle rescuing surplus food for local area emergency food providers.
“Charter One is excited to help support the return of world-class racing to Detroit and contribute to the preservation and improvement of Belle Isle,” said Sandy Pierce, President and CEO of Charter One Bank, Michigan. “The RBS F1 simulator is a unique and interactive experience for race fans. Taking the Charter One Challenge adds thrill to the days’ events but also helps raise awareness of hunger in our region by supporting Forgotten Harvest.”
Each dollar raised from the Charter One Challenge will enable Forgotten Harvest to provide six nutritional meals to children, families and seniors in the tri-county area. “We’re so grateful to Charter One Bank for its role in bringing awareness and support to Forgotten Harvest in this fun, interactive challenge,” said Susan Goodell, executive director of Forgotten Harvest.
The RBS F1 simulator is positioned in the Charter One Chalet inside the Charter One Fountain Side Suites and Chalets near Scott Fountain.

About Forgotten Harvest
Forgotten Harvest was formed in 1990 to fight two problems: hunger and waste. Forgotten Harvest currently rescues more than 8.5 million pounds of food per year by collecting surplus prepared and perishable food from a variety of sources, including grocery stores, fruit and vegetable markets, restaurants, caterers, dairies, farmers, wholesale food distributors, and other Health Department-approved sources. This donated food, which would otherwise go to waste, is delivered absolutely free of charge to 135 emergency food providers in metropolitan Detroit. The individuals and families served are as diverse as the community’s residents – young and old, from all races and faiths. The common bond uniting them with each other and with Forgotten Harvest is hunger. Forgotten Harvest Web site is www.forgottenharvest.org.
