Online Banking Security and Technical Requirements

To prevent online banking fraud and shield your critical financial information, Citizens Bank has enabled a number of powerful security measures to protect you online.

Secure online banking logins

Each time you log in to Citizens Bank Online, we run a check on your Web browser to help ensure that your transactions will be secure. In addition, you'll be asked to provide a login ID and a password.

If you leave your computer unattended or forget to exit, we will automatically end your online banking session after a few minutes. It's another way we work to keep your information safe and confidential as part of providing you secure online banking.

State-of-the-art encryption technology

The information exchanged between your Web browser and Citizens Bank is encrypted for your protection. Encryption is the process by which information is translated into un-interpretable code and then back into recognizable information.


Citizens Bank data systems are protected by firewalls that are set up between our systems and the Internet. Any incoming messages must first pass through our firewall, which allows only certain types of messages to be sent through. This means only legitimate online banking messages will be recognized. Any other requests will be rejected before they can reach our systems.

Web browsers

We require the use of recent encrypted Web browsers to ensure that your account information is handled in the safest and most private manner.

Online Banking is optimized for use with the following browsers with 128-bit encryption:

  • Microsoft® Internet Explorer 10.0 or higher
  • Safari 6 or higher
  • Chrome™ 31 or higher
  • Firefox 28 or higher

Important Information for Mobile Banking Users

If you are using a mobile device with an Android™ Operating System, you will need to use Android 4.0.3 or higher to access Citizens Bank Mobile Banking App.

If you are using a mobile or tablet device with iOS, you will need to use iOS 7 or higher to access Citizens Bank Mobile Banking App.

A minimum of 2.0 megapixel camera is required to use mobile deposit.

iOS Widget users need to use iOS 8 or higher.

Important information for Wearables users

Android Wear™ users need to use Jelly Bean 4.3 or higher.

Apple Watch® users need to use iOS 8.2 or higher.
