Improving our diversity representation

Citizens is committed to building long lasting relationships among our customers, colleagues, and communities while fostering a culture where all stakeholders feel respected, valued, and heard. We recognize and appreciate the differences that make us unique yet give us a shared sense of belonging. We have been on a multiyear journey to enhance our culture of inclusiveness and belonging, improve in-demand capabilities and create new opportunities within the organization and the communities we serve.

As we continue to make progress, we acknowledge that there are opportunities to further increase the representation of women and people of color at all levels of our organization, in particular in senior roles, and have implemented several recruiting and development initiatives to facilitate progress, including the following:

  • Partnerships with community organizations and historically black colleges and universities to help identify qualified diverse candidates.
  • Ensuring our interview slate for senior openings includes candidates with diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
  • An internal dashboard to measure our progress for senior leader roles.
  • Development programs specifically designed to build a strong pipeline of emerging talent with diverse backgrounds and perspectives such as Year Up.
  • Seven business resource groups (“BRGs”), each of which is sponsored by senior leaders, serve as cultural ambassadors within the business supporting our diversity, equity, and inclusion strategy through colleague engagement while focused on innovation and business driven solutions for the segments they represent.
    • Citizens Pride (LGBTQ)
    • Citizens Prism (Multi-cultural)
    • Citizens Veterans
    • Citizens WIN (Women)
    • Citizens Awake (Disability Awareness)
    • Elev8 Citizens (Rising Professionals)
