Commemorating Juneteenth

Juneteenth is a powerful testament to the enduring fight for freedom and the resilience of Black communities. Since 1865, Black communities across the nation have honored Juneteenth as a day of reflection, celebration and remembrance.

At Citizens, we honor the profound legacy of Juneteenth by fostering an inclusive workplace where every voice is heard, valued and empowered. This day calls us to celebrate and amplify Black stories, recognize the ongoing pursuit of fairness and work toward a future where justice and opportunity are accessible to all.

In 2021, Juneteenth was officially recognized as the 11th Federal holiday—the first addition since Martin Luther King Jr. Day in 1983. As we mark this milestone, we stand in solidarity with our Black colleagues, customers and communities, reflecting on the past while striving together for a more sustainable and inclusive future.

A time for reflection and action

Today, we recognize Juneteenth as a profound opportunity for education, reflection and advocacy. This day not only honors the resilience and freedom of Black Americans but also calls us to confront the lasting impact of enslavement in the United States.

For Citizens, we embrace Juneteenth as more than a historical commemoration—it is a moment to demonstrate our commitment to fostering a culture of inclusion in action. We strive to build a workplace and communities where belonging is more than a promise—it’s a reality for all.
