Mistakes happen

Overdrafts. We’ve all been there. Here’s how Citizens Peace of Mind® makes it like they never happened.

Wednesday: The overdraft

You start the day with $50 in your account. You’re excited about this weekend’s dinner party and spend a little more than usual on groceries: $150. That’s a $100 overdraft.

Thursday: Get to $0 or more

Your account is now overdrawn -$135 (an overdraft fee hit it this morning), so we give you a heads up via text or email. No worry: You transfer $100 from your other Citizens account – there’s no need to cover the overdraft fee – and get on with your day. The transfer must occur before 10 p.m. ET.

Friday: Get the overdraft fee rebated

Nice work, you got your available balance back to $0 and covered your overdraft!  We'll let you know with another alert that a Citizens Peace of Mind® rebate hit your account.

What does my deposit need to cover?

You don’t need to cover the overdraft fee in your deposit amount — only the transactions that caused your overdraft, plus any new transactions that process the same day as your deposit (like a recurring car payment, for instance).

Which deposits or transfers qualify for a rebate?

Some deposits such as checks drawn on a bank other than Citizens, even if made by 10:00 PM ET the next business day, are not available to cover transactions that day.

Frequently Asked Questions

When your account is overdrawn, Citizens Peace of Mind gives you additional time to add money to your account and get any overdraft fees rebated. You have until 10 pm ET the next business day to transfer or deposit eligible funds to cover your overdraft as well as any other transactions processing on your account that day. If you bring your available balance positive, we will rebate any overdraft fees.

Great news, with the new Citizens Peace of Mind you have until 10PM ET on (business day listed in the table above) to transfer or deposit eligible funds to cover the negative available balance (minus overdraft fees) and anything else coming out of the account between now and (business day listed in the table).

When determining how much you need to transfer or deposit to take advantage of Citizens Peace of Mind, you can check your balance in the Citizens mobile app or Online Banking and then consider transactions that may post to your account that day — such as checks or other debits. As we do not see these transactions until they are presented for payments, only you know what transactions may post to your account and how much you need to deposit. A deposit that only partially covers transactions or overdraft items will not result in a fee reversal.

Citizens Peace of Mind works based on the available balance in your account. Not all deposits increase your available balance the same day. For example, some deposits – such as checks from a bank other than Citizens – even if made by 10 pm ET the next business day, don’t cover transactions that day. But a deposit of cash or a Citizens check, or an electronic funds transfer, will generally cover the transactions.

Transactions that occur over the weekend post to your account on Monday night. If the account is overdrawn, the fees will be deducted from the account after 11 am on Tuesday. The good news is Citizens offers Citizens Peace of Mind®, which gives you until 10 pm ET Tuesday to deposit or transfer enough funds to bring your account to a positive available balance and have any overdraft fees automatically rebated.

An Overdraft Line of Credit or Savings Overdraft Transfer plan will apply before Citizens Peace of Mind®. In the event one of these plans does not have available credit or funds to fully cover the negative balance transaction(s), then Citizens Peace of Mind will take effect. Citizens Peace of Mind applies to rebating Overdraft Fees, not plan transfer fees - any applicable transfer fees will be charged.
