MBA student loans are a type of private student loan designed specifically for students enrolled in an MBA program. At Citizens, MBA loans are school‑certified and can be used for eligible education‑related expenses included in your school’s cost of attendance.
For an MBA program, you can typically borrow from $1,000 up to 100% of your school’s certified cost of attendance, minus any other financial aid you receive. Certified costs may include tuition and fees, housing, books, supplies, transportation, and required technology.
Yes. MBA loans can be used for eligible education‑related expenses included in your school’s certified cost of attendance, which may include tuition and required fees, housing, food, books and supplies, transportation, and required technology.
Yes, MBA loans may be used for part‑time, executive, or online MBA programs as long as the program is offered by an eligible, degree‑granting school and you are enrolled at least half‑time, as determined by the school.
Yes. After you graduate and meet eligibility requirements, you may be able to refinance your MBA loans with a Citizens Education Refinance Loan®. This option allows eligible borrowers to refinance federal and private student loans into a single loan, to secure a new and potentially lower rate, change repayment terms, or remove a co‑signer.
Borrowers can choose from three repayment options for their student loans. With immediate repayment, you begin making principal and interest payments shortly after the loan is disbursed. With interest‑only repayment, you pay interest while you're in school, and full principal and interest payments begin six months after you graduate, leave school, or drop below half‑time enrollment. With deferred repayment, no payments are required while you're in school, and principal and interest payments begin six months after you graduate, leave school, or drop below half‑time enrollment. During deferred repayment, interest continues to accrue and is added to the principal when repayment begins.
A fixed interest rate stays the same for the life of the loan, so your interest rate and monthly payment remain consistent. A variable interest rate can change over time based on a market index (i.e. SOFR), which means your rate and monthly payment may increase or decrease over the loan term.
The application can be completed online or by phone in just a few minutes. After the loan is processed and approved, your school must certify the loan for the correct amount before funds can be disbursed. The whole process can take several business days.
