We have an established track record of deep credibility and broad expertise with more than 40 years in the student loan business. Over that time, we’ve developed a network of close relationships with college financial aid offices and other student financial aid professionals, which greatly benefits our borrowers.

To qualify for the Student Loan for Parents, borrowers must meet all of the following eligibility criteria:

  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident with a valid U.S Social Security number living at a U.S. address.
  • Be at least 18 years of age and have attained the age of majority in their state of residence.
  • Satisfy all credit requirements.
  • Execute an application, promissory note, and any other documents without alterations including the use of whiteout or any adjustments to the wording on any of the documents. (This includes any supporting documentation such as income verification or a paper promissory note).
  • Have no prior student loan defaults.
  • Meet any other applicable customer identification requirements.
  • The student whose education expenses will be paid for with the loan proceeds must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and must be enrolled at least half-time in a degree granting program at a Citizens-participating school.

For Citizens Student Loans, the minimum amount that a student can borrow is $1,000. If approved, the maximum amount that a student can borrow is up to 100% of the certified cost of attendance less any financial aid received from the school. Certified expenses typically include tuition and fees, room and board, books, supplies, transportation, and technology.

The Citizens Student Loan® has no origination, application, or disbursement fees. And there is no prepayment penalty or any other penalty for paying more than the minimum monthly payment or for paying off the entire loan early.

Most lenders, including Citizens, send loan funds directly to your student's school; others will disburse funds directly to your student, so they can manage their education expenses with flexibility.
