Funding Requirements

Giving Areas:
Citizens Bank's primary focus is to support programs that:

  • Fight Hunger and reduce food insecurity.
  • Teach Money Management through financial literacy programs that provide individuals and businesses with the tools needed to be fiscally healthy.
  • Strengthen Communities through economic development, job training, small business development, affordable housing, and neighborhood revitalization.

Priority is given to those projects which:

  • Provide direct service to low- or moderate-income populations.
  • Are one year in duration.
  • Demonstrate a plan for long-term sustainability and potential to be replicated.
  • Are focused on addressing a specific unmet need or issue.

Funding Restrictions

Citizens Bank does not fund organizations which discriminate based on:

  • Age
  • Race
  • Color
  • Sex
  • Religion
  • National Origin
  • Disability
  • Family Status
  • Receipt of Public Assistance
  • Sexual Orientation

In addition, Citizens generally does not support:

  • Annual appeals/general operating support
  • Individuals
  • Single disease/issue information and research organizations
  • Religious organizations, including restoration of church buildings
  • Labor, fraternal and veterans organizations (including fraternal orders of police/firefighters)
  • Political organizations or projects
  • Operating deficits
  • Governmental and quasi-governmental public agencies or organizations
  • Endowment
  • Trips and tours, including transportation costs
  • Payment on bank loans (including loans from Citizens Bank)
  • Private Foundations or Trusts
  • Historic preservation
  • Public or private education institutions

Application Procedure

If your organization meets Citizens Bank's funding requirements, we encourage you to proceed with your request. All contribution requests must be submitted through our online application. Organizations that receive funding are expected to complete an online impact report.

New Users: Complete the online eligibility quiz prior to submitting an application.

Review Process

Citizens Bank reviews applications on an ongoing basis. It may take up to three months for a request to be fully vetted. Please note that a site visit and additional information may be required prior to a final determination. Your organization will be notified of a contribution approval or denial by letter and/or email.
